A team of dedicated Calrossy students and staff is heading to Dubbo this weekend, proudly representing Kamilaroi Shorthorns at the prestigious 66th National Shorthorn Show and Sale on June 17–18.

As one of the only Australian schools to operate its own registered cattle stud, Calrossy continues to build a strong reputation within the livestock industry. Kamilaroi Shorthorns — established in 2004 — is known for producing structurally sound, award-winning animals with outstanding temperaments and industry-leading data.

This year, Kamilaroi is offering five standout bulls and one elite heifer at the Dubbo National. These animals have been raised and prepared by students on Calrossy’s 240-acre farm “Tangara” just outside Tamworth. The stud herd of around 45 breeding cows is managed using a mix of AI and natural cover, with bulls and heifers selected annually for major events such as the Sydney Royal and Beef Australia.

All five Kamilaroi bulls in this year’s Dubbo lineup are Homozygous Polled and noted for their docility, softness and natural thickness — a true testament to the school’s breeding philosophy. Highlights include:

Kamilaroi Utopia U27 – A lead bull, quiet and deep-bodied, top 10% for fat.

Kamilaroi Untouched U28 – A carcass specialist with excellent docility and weight traits.

Kamilaroi Ultimate U25 – Top 10% for fat and docility; quiet and easy-doing.

Kamilaroi Ultra U31 and Unit U23 – Both soft, quiet, high-performing bulls from top maternal lines.

Adding to the offering is Kamilaroi Anna Marie V30 , a striking heifer sired by the renowned Futurity Scotch Fillet S373 and backed by elite EPD figures. Already proven in the show ring, she’s a calm, show-quality heifer from one of the stud’s most successful female lines.

Kamilaroi’s success is driven not just by genetics, but by the passion and professionalism of the students and staff who care for and prepare the animals. “There’s something special about watching our students develop skills, confidence and responsibility through hands-on learning — and to see those efforts recognised in the show ring is incredibly rewarding,” says Kamilaroi Shorthorns Manager Kathy de Jong.

Calrossy’s involvement in livestock showing is more than a tradition — it’s a dynamic, real-world learning experience that continues to produce results at the highest level.
