Creative & Performance Arts
Creativity is contagious, pass it on! - Albert Einstein
The Primary School offers many opportunities for the children to take part in creative and performing arts activities. A musical production is staged every second year with all children from Prep to Year 6 being involved and on stage. In the alternate year, the children take part in a Performing Arts night. Each grade group is involved in presenting a small item, while individuals and groups audition to take part. These can be children singing, dancing, reciting poetry, dramatic speaking or comedy performances. Again all children from Prep to Year 6 are involved.
The school also participates in interschool debating and public speaking competitions. Children in Years 5 and 6 are eligible to take part in the Hunter Region Independent Schools Debating day. As well as this there is a House debating competition which is run over several weeks.
Involvement in the Hunter Region Independent Schools Public Speaking Completion, provides an avenue for children across the four disciplines of Bible Reading, Poetry, Prepared Speech and Impromptu Speech. The children go through a school-based competition in order to represent the school at this competition. Children form Year 3 to Year 6 are eligible to compete.
Each year a number of art pieces are chosen to be part of the HRIS Travelling Art show that visits all the schools in the Hunter Region Independent Schools group. These pieces are displayed in each school for two weeks before being sent to the next. Children also have the opportunity to present pieces in a number of art showcases.
