As we look forward to our Professional Development Day in Week Six of Term Four, we want to take a moment to reflect on how much a great teacher and strong school leadership can shape your child’s learning journey. Research continues to show that high-quality teaching and leadership are two of the most impactful factors in helping students succeed. At Calrossy, we’re committed to ensuring our staff are always growing and learning, so they can bring the very best practices to the classroom for the benefit of your children and your families.

This year, we’ve been especially focused on boosting our expertise in teaching Mathematics. Our efforts have included sending our teachers to outstanding professional development workshops, facilitating presentations from our own staff, and welcoming special guest educators into the Junior School to work with our team. These sessions have been all about enhancing student understanding and skills in Mathematics, with a combination of clear instruction and hands-on, open-ended problem-solving activities. We believe that by creating a collaborative and supportive atmosphere in Mathematics, we’re encouraging students to think, explore, and express themselves without the worry of making mistakes.

A big part of this has been using concrete materials from Prep all the way through to Junior Secondary. This hands-on approach helps students grasp new concepts in a real, practical way, which then progresses to picture-based representations and, eventually, to abstract symbols.

Every member of our teaching and support teams has embraced this journey of professional learning, affirming our belief that Calrossy has an incredible team committed to nurturing each child’s growth.
