At Calrossy, Wellbeing isn’t just an idea—it’s a priority.

Next week, we’ll dedicate Term 4’s Week of Wellbeing to nurturing the physical, emotional, and social health of every student, from our littlest learners in Prep to our seniors and the community which supports us as a school. This highlights our commitment to building resilience, promoting personal growth, and fostering kindness across our community. This term we are widening our focus to the broader community,

Each term, during Week Five, we bring wellbeing to the forefront through programs and experiences tailored to meet the needs of each age and stage of student development. Our single-sex classes in Years 7 to 9 allow us to focus on age- and gender-specific topics, while our coeducational senior years emphasise collaboration and resilience as students prepare for life beyond school. Across all year levels, we incorporate dedicated mentoring and peer support programs, allowing students to build connections, share experiences, and develop confidence in a supportive environment.

The week’s big highlights will include welcoming local hero and 2022 Australian of the Year,  Shanna Whan, as a guest speaker next Monday, November 11th in a free community event. Shanna will share her inspiring story, reminding us of the power of community and the importance of mental health awareness.

Her visit will be accompanied by local support services, including representatives from Headspace and Centrecare, providing resources and support for all. Please help us share this opportunity with the wider community.

The highlights don’t end there with Pink Cricket set to bring the whole school together to raise awareness and support for breast cancer on the evening of Thursday, November 14. This vibrant event combines the spirit of teamwork with the joy of doing something meaningful, showing how wellbeing is woven into every part of our community.  Calrossy Year 6 – 8 students will hit the wicket first on Goldsworthy Oval at the William Cowper Campus raising money for Serendity Tamworth, followed by the Community XI White versus Student XI Pink. Since 1994 Serendipity Tamworth have raised funds for the benefit of local breast cancer patients. Theire objectives are, to improve local facilities for cancer patients; to purchase equipment and improve services for women living with breast cancer in the New England and North-West and to promote breast health awareness and regular screening.

Wellbeing at Calrossy is also about the little things. In between the structured events, there are many special moments planned for students both in and out of the classroom. And, of course, it’s our youngest students who are set to have a lot of next week’s fun. Junior School will kick off the week with bubble wands on Monday, followed by the SRC selling ice creams on Tuesday. A special Throwrug Thursday picnic recess will coincide with Pink Day to celebrate our Pink Cricket fundraiser. The week will wrap up with a lively disco lunch in the COLA on Friday, ensuring every student has a chance to let loose and enjoy.

Secondary students have their share of fun lined up as well, with a disco and Pink Day on Thursday. The celebrations will continue with House Games for the Seniors on Friday, building camaraderie and friendly competition. These activities not only bring joy but also strengthen bonds within our school community, creating memories that reinforce a positive and inclusive school culture.

Wellbeing at Calrossy extends beyond this dedicated week; we emphasize ongoing initiatives like RUOK Day and regular check-ins to encourage open conversations about mental health. Our expedition and outdoor programs play a vital role in promoting resilience and confidence, giving students opportunities to develop leadership and team-building skills in real-world settings.

At Calrossy, we believe that a happy, healthy student is a successful one. Next week’s Week of Wellbeing will allow our entire community to come together, support each other, and celebrate the importance of nurturing wellbeing in every aspect of school life. We look forward to fostering resilience, building relationships, and creating joyful, meaningful experiences for every student, all week long.
