Careers at Calrossy: Empowering Students for Every Pathway
At Calrossy Anglican School, we don’t just prepare students for graduation—we prepare them for life. Whether they’re dreaming of university, diving into vocational training, or stepping straight into the workforce, our dynamic Careers Program ensures every student has the tools, guidance, and opportunities to chart their own unique path to success. From hands-on apprenticeships to tailored career planning, we empower students to turn their aspirations into reality.
Our dynamic Careers Program, led by Careers Advisor Charles Impey, is tailored to guide senior students and their families in making informed decisions about their futures. Focused primarily on Years 10 to 12, with individual support available for younger students, the program takes a structured approach to careers discovery and planning, targeting three key stages:
Personal Discovery : Students explore their personality traits, interests, and abilities, learning to identify their strengths and opportunities for growth. This self-awareness forms the foundation for linking personal interests to career opportunities.
Career Discovery : Building on self-discovery, students delve into the diversity of career options available, exploring industries, roles, and trends to identify a career they’ll love.
Pathway Discovery : Once career goals are identified, we help students map out the steps needed to achieve them. This includes guidance on education, training, internships, scholarships, university accommodation and even gap year planning.
The Careers Program equips students with essential skills such as job search strategies, resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace expectations. It also provides insights into employment trends, future occupational opportunities, and access to vocational and tertiary pathways, including School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT).

Real-World Experience with the SBAT Program
A highlight of the Careers Program is our innovative SBAT program, which combines classroom learning with practical, hands-on employment. This program offers students a head start in their chosen industries while earning certifications and valuable real-world experience.
For Year 12 student Thea Sheridan, the SBAT program has been life-changing. Pursuing a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Acute Care) through a traineeship at Tamworth Base Hospital, Thea balances her schoolwork with practical experience, setting her up for a seamless transition to her dream career in nursing.

“The on-the-job training is unmatched,” Thea shares. “This program has given me the confidence and knowledge to pursue a Bachelor of Nursing at Newcastle University while contributing to my HSC ATAR. It’s a fantastic opportunity to prepare for my future.”
Careers Advisor Charles Impey emphasises the benefits of the SBAT program: “Our students graduate not only with certificates but with industry experience and networks. It’s about equipping them with a real-world edge, whether they choose to continue working, studying, or exploring new opportunities.”
A Future for Every Student
At Calrossy, we believe that no matter the path, every student deserves the tools and support to succeed. From career discovery workshops to attending university open days and career expos, we provide a wealth of opportunities for students to explore, plan, and achieve their goals.
“Our goal is to ensure that each student graduates confident, capable, and ready for the world,” says Mr. Impey. “At Calrossy, the future begins today.”
