Calrossy First XV players had a fantastic opportunity to enhance their rugby skills and knowledge by training with the Northern Suburbs First Colts team during their recent training camp in Scone recently.

Calrossy Head Coach, Conrad Starr, said our team has had a strong player turnout over the past two months to training. The opportunity to attend the camp is another moment for our young players to grow as an individual and as a rugby player. The camp challenged them on how to refine their technical skills as well as their understanding of game strategies.

The day featured over 70 players that participated in a range of fitness drills and game-based scenarios, focusing on both defensive and offensive techniques. This approach was designed to not only help improve individual skills such as tackling, passing, and positioning but also foster teamwork and positive communication on the field. All of the players were also educated on important self-care practices to ensure they remain fit and healthy throughout the season.

Calrossy’s connection with Sydney Rugby is positive with many of our Alumni playing in the Shute Shield and Colts programs over the decades. This camp had the added bonus to for our players to train alongside Archie Barnett, Class of 2024, who is playing with Norths this season. Barnett has been training and working this year, as well as starting a Diploma in Business at the Australian Catholic University.

Barnett said “the training camp went really well and it was good to see the boys and talk to them about opportunities and pathways, as well as look at skills and game play, hopefully they enjoyed it.”

General Manager of Northern Suburbs Rugby, Seth Stoltenberg, expressed his delight about having the Calrossy Firsts join the camp, stating that it provided them with a glimpse into the next level of rugby and builds on a unique pathway for Calrossy players into the future. He hopes to see even more Calrossy players participate in future camps and hopefully pull on a Norths jumper soon. Our Club is about player development and the overall growth of the team. Training Camps like this not only enhances individual skills but also strengthens the rugby community as a whole, paving the way for future successes on the field and I wish the Calrossy First XV all the best for the season ahead.
