What it means to be a leader at Calrossy
At Calrossy, leadership is more than a title; it's a responsibility that shapes our School community and extends well beyond the classroom. Students chosen to lead are recognised not only for their academic achievements but also for their integrity, compassion, and commitment to service. As part of a School with over a century of tradition, our leaders stand on the shoulders of those who came before them, continuing to uphold our values and acting as role models for their peers.
Calrossy is committed to nurturing student leadership from a young age, with leadership opportunities available throughout the Junior School, Middle School, and Senior Secondary years. By encouraging responsibility and service at every level, we enable students to experience personal growth in age-appropriate roles. Younger students might start as library monitors in the Junior School, building a sense of pride and ownership within their school environment. As they progress, opportunities such as Peer Support positions in Middle School allow students to mentor their peers, while Senior Secondary students may serve as Boarding or Chapel Prefects, reinforcing a culture of care and inclusivity within our Christian community.
Developing Leaders for the Future
Calrossy places a strong emphasis on developing future leaders equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world. From early opportunities to step into leadership roles, students develop vital skills in communication, creative problem-solving, and ethical decision-making—all grounded in Christian values. One of the key aspects of leadership at Calrossy is servant leadership, an approach deeply rooted in Christian teachings. We believe that a leader should embody the spirit of Christ, who exemplified selfless service and humility. Calrossy’s leaders are encouraged to place the needs of others above their own, serving the community with compassion and integrity. This model of leadership allows students to experience the fulfillment that comes from serving others and provides them with opportunities to lead through action. By volunteering, assisting others in their learning, or representing the school at public events, students actively live out the values of servant leadership.
"At Calrossy, we believe that true leadership is found in service to others. Our students are encouraged to lead with integrity, compassion, and a sense of responsibility to their community. By fostering these qualities from the Junior School through to Senior Secondary, we are not only developing future leaders but also nurturing young men and women who will make a positive impact on the world," says Principal David Smith.
A Community of Leaders
Being a leader at Calrossy means understanding the broader impact of one’s actions and decisions. Our student leaders are expected to be role models, demonstrating respect, inclusivity, and compassion in all areas of school life. By empowering students to lead, we foster a sense of ownership and pride in their personal growth and achievements. The School’s commitment to Christian education ensures that every student understands the importance of community and the value of serving others.
At each stage of schooling, Calrossy offers diverse leadership opportunities, allowing students to explore their interests while developing key skills. This holistic approach means that students not only excel academically but also cultivate qualities essential for life beyond school, preparing them to be resilient and compassionate leaders of tomorrow. The foundation of Calrossy’s leadership program is the belief that every student has the potential to be a positive influence, equipped to serve and lead with purpose. With the School’s foundational verse from John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life” – Calrossy leaders are empowered to be lights in their communities, showing kindness, courage, and perseverance.
Celebrating the Future
As we induct the new leaders of our Senior Secondary School, we celebrate their journey and look forward to the positive impact they will have on the Calrossy community. Their leadership will not only shape the future of our school but also prepare them to be the trailblazers of tomorrow, carrying the values of selflessness, integrity, and resilience into their communities and the world.
