Calrossy Junior School’s Reading Buddies program continues to flourish, creating valuable bonds between younger and older students, fostering a vibrant sense of community within the School.

The initiative pairs Prep students with Year 4 buddies, while Kindergarten and Year 1 students are supported by their Year 5 peers. The aim of the program is twofold: nurturing community spirit and providing older students with meaningful opportunities to develop their leadership and mentoring skills, while encouraging empathy and understanding.

Activities within the Reading Buddies program extend beyond reading, incorporating enjoyable and educational events such as carnivals, gross motor skill activities, craft sessions, and playground interactions.

Year 5 students play an especially important role, assisting their Kindergarten buddies with transitioning into the larger playground and becoming comfortable with school routines.

It creates friendships that promote confidence, belonging, and vital social skills.”

Year 4 and 5 mentors guide their younger peers, building lasting friendships and a supportive atmosphere that ensures a positive start for the younger students on their educational journeys.
