Who will take home the Coveted Cowper and Thistle shields?
The Red vs Blue Alumni Rugby Weekend is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of community, sportsmanship, and school pride . Calrossy Anglican School takes immense pride in how its players of all ages demonstrate resilience, courage, fellowship, and sportsmanship , both on and off the field.
This year’s Red v Blue event promises unforgettable moments, with alumni returning from across the region. As part of the festivities, we have our two Alumni Bands each nicknamed the Prickly Thistles playing. Lachlan Barry (2017) said it's the perfect opportunity to get together again and entertain the crowd. This will be the first time since school we have played together and to have 12 people, some professional musicians, volunteer is awesome. This group showcases the many pathways Calrossy has offered students across the years. Sam Ison (2023) said now we are part of the Alumni Community even if it's only been for a few months, you certainly feel part of something special and we couldn’t miss this when Mick Wilson reached out.
Red vs Blue Emcee Matthew Scott (Class of 2017) noted, “What made our time at Calrossy great was the blend of experiences. We’d be playing jazz with Mrs. Turner on the Friday morning and then running out to play Rugby on Friday Night. I look back on how we all learnt from the early years that if you made a commitment, you see it through. This is one lesson from school that has helped shape me / us into who we are today.”
For others, like Girls Red Captain Jessie Middlemiss (2017) this event is a chance to reconnect, relive memories, and compete again on Scully Park , the premier ground in the region. For Blue Team Co-Captain Angus Hanlon said “ the opportunity to receive our playing jumpers from a Wallabies legend in Mark Ella AM will be an unforgettable moment.
Rod Grant, A current Calrossy parent said “Coming back to watch the Red vs Blue game brings back so many great memories. It’s amazing to see how this event has grown, but the sense of community and pride is just as strong as ever. Watching the next generation of Alumni take the field, supported by familiar faces. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
