Tangara Calrossy School Farm - Partners

Growing for the Future with AMPS

The Agricultural and Primary Industry students of Calrossy are encouraged to access as many industry opportunities and practical experiences as possible as part of their studies. This week some of these experiences came to the Calrossy Tangara Trade Training Centre in partnership with AMPS Agribusiness who have planted a forage trial site with over 100 varieties of winter forage crops.

The students will be working closely with Head Research Agronomist, Matt Gardner to follow the performance of the various forage types throughout the trial period. In the longer term our students are encouraged to take the lead as to how the trial site is developed through selecting seed varieties and documenting the outcomes as part of their studies.

Mr Geoff Nielson, Calrossy Primary Industries Teacher and Tangara Farm Manager, said this type of work links beautifully with parts of the HSC Agriculture curriculum for example, experimental design.  The benefits of industry partnerships are enormous for our students as the experience and knowledge learnt in the classroom is backed up by our trial site and the expertise of the AMPS staff.  Many of our students are from farms right across Northern NSW and this experience is then able to be adapted and used at home.

AMPS Agribusiness Marketing Manager, Georgina Mace, said that working with the youth who are passionate about agriculture is so exciting for our company. We are able to foster this interest and through school partnerships, we can assist in feeding the passion for agriculture of the students who may return to the family farm or follow onto further study within the agricultural industry. There is endless opportunity within the agricultural sector, and it all starts with great teachers. We are looking forward to working with you all into the future
